Leicester Beer Festival 2007 - Cider Bar Report
The
Cider Bar at the Leicester CAMRA Beer Festival has on occasions
been a victim of its own success. Trying to estimate the
quantity of cider and perry to order, so that everyone who
visits the Festival has a good choice throughout the Festival,
is always a difficult task. At this year’s Festival I believe we
got things just about right, with around a dozen of the initial
30 draught ciders and perrys still available at opening time on
the final day.
First to sell out was the ever popular
Janet’s Jungle Juice from Somerset, producer West Croft Cider.
As the old Westons advertising used to say, this cider sells
through its name, but it is also a high quality cider from a
well respected, award winning producer. The Heck’s Port Wine of
Glastonbury and Broome Farm perrys were also very popular, with
those fermented in Rum cask creating a great deal of interest.
New to the bar this year was the range of
apple juices from the Stamford Juice Co. These high quality pure
juices are pressed from old varieties of apples, sourced from
heritage orchards in and around the Lincolnshire town of
Stamford. They proved to be very popular and we aim to offer
these rare treats again at next year’s festival.
I would like to thank all the volunteers
who helped with the set-up of this years bar and, particularly,
Julia Everett, Chris Gascoyne, Joanne, Paul & Susan Shirley and
Peter Witting for their hard graft serving on the bar and good
company throughout the festival.
