Presentation Day
Out To Norfolk
With
most of us having just about recovered from the Beer Festival,
we set about presenting various breweries with their Harry Cragg
Beer Of The Festival awards.
On Thursday
18th May, a team of 6 of us set off by train to Acle
in Norfolk. We were heading for Tipples Brewery on a small
industrial unit in Acle. We left Leicester at 9.15am, changing
at Ely and Norwich. We had an just over an hour to wait in
Norwich, so we gave The Coach & Horses a visit for lunch and a
couple of pints of Chalk Hill beers.
We arrived
at Acle about 2.00pm. This village is half way between Norwich
and Great Yarmouth. The brewery was a 15 minute walk from the
railway station, but we did find it eventually. We were greeted
by Jason Tipples who runs the brewery single handed. He brews 9
regular beers and 3 seasonals and bottles his complete range as
well as in cask. He started brewing in September 2004 on a 6
barrel plant and supplies to about 40 local outlets. We
presented Jason with the Harry Cragg Beer Of The Festival
certificate for winning the Speciality beer category with
Ginger. Jason was really pleased as he takes great pride in his
beers.
Jason kindly
gave us a lift back to the railway station in plenty of time for
our train. We stopped for 3 hours in Norwich on the return
journey and visited the current national Pub Of The Year, The
Fat Cat which we all thought was a well deserved accolade. To
finish, we visited The Alexandra Tavern.
