Tower Brewery & Beer My Guest Open Day

On Tuesday 4^th October 2005, four of us from Leicester CAMRA were invited to the Tower Brewery open day in Burton-on-Trent. Tower Brewery is also the base of BMG (Beer My Guest) beer agency that is part owned by John Mills, the brewer and owner of Tower Brewery. The open day was designed to showcase the products of Tower Brewery and the services available from BMG both to the pub industry and CAMRA and to help people understand that the two are linked.

Jackie Walker and Penny McDonald, former licensees of the award winning Rising Sun in Tipton, started Beer My Guest in 2002. After leaving the pub, Jackie says they wanted to start a beer agency and treat customers how they would like to be treated in terms of quality and service. BMG has supplied the Leicester Beer Festival for the last 3 years with a variety of beers and has an impressive 60+ breweries on its books that it can supply beers from. Beers are mainly from the Midlands but also from far away such as Scotland and even Cornwall.

The Tower Brewery portfolio of beers is quite interesting and I sampled Fosbrooke Bitter 3.8, Malty Towers 4.2 and Autumn Equinox 4.6 on the day. Also available was the 2005 brew of Hoskins Green & Gold. Tower Brewery also contract brews beers for the Hoskins Brothers based at the Ale Wagon in Leicester.
