Steamin' Billy Pulls in at The Western
The Western, 70 Western Road Leicester, opened its doors on
Wednesday 31stOctober 2007 as a “Steamin’ Billy” badged
pub. This is a similar operation to the Paget Arms in Loughborough
where Everards Brewery have given the Tenancy over to a Pub
Company, supporting Micro-Breweries.
The Landlord, Danny Harwood made Keith Satterly and myself very
welcome when we visited the pub on the Saturday 3rd
November. He is committed to Real Ale and, at the time of our visit
had six beers available, three on hand pump and three on gravity
from the cellar. The beers available were:- Steamin’ Billy Bitter,
Everards Sunchaser, Amber Ales Autumn Ales, Thornbridge Lord
Marples and Wild Swan and Triple FFF Stairway.
All of these beers were in superb condition and were priced at
£2:40 per pint.
If
you don’t fancy walking from the city centre, travel on one of the
following buses to Braunstone Gate / Narborough Road junction:-
First Bus Service 18 between Monday and Saturday daytime only or
Arriva Bus Service’s 50, 50a, 51, 51a, 104. Why not call in and see
for yourself.
Whilst in the area why not visit the 2008 Good Beer Guide Entry
pub, “The Black Horse," Foxon Street / Braunstone Gate, an Everards
Pub always with several guest beers on. Please note though it does
not open until 3pm Monday to Friday and from Noon on Saturday and
7.00pm on Sundays. Open until midnight every night.
You then have a choice of either visiting:- The Pump & Tap, The
Shakespeares Head, The Criterion, The Leicester Gateway, The Swan &
Rushes. A little further away The Out of The Vaults. All these pubs
are approx 10-15 minutes walk away from “The Black Horse” and “The
Western.”
