Meet the Publican - The Admiral Nelson, Market Harborough

We visit the market town of Market Harborough for Meet the Publican this issue, where we meet Jan at The Admiral Nelson.

Janet Morris (Jan to her friends) was born in September 1965 in Kettering Hospital to parents Selwyn and Maureen. She attended Little Bowden Infants and Primary School until moving in 1970 to Welland Park Community College. She finished her education at Robert Smythe Grammar School, leaving in 1981 to work full time at Market Harborough Bus Station Café, where she had worked part time while at College. In 1984, she changed job and worked for a year at Wesses Bakery in Market Harborough. In 1985 she took up many short term jobs, mainly bar work in various pubs, nightclubs etc.

In 1991 while on a night out in The Grove Market Harborough (Now the Copperfield) she met Dennis Pratt who became her partner to this day.

In 1996 she became a Post lady until 2003 and after a year at MRM Marketing, while also working as a part time Barmaid at The Admiral Nelson in Market Harborough, on departure of the Licensee, she was offered the pub by Charles Wells and accepted it as her first pub, commencing on 3rd March this year.

She has one brother Tony and a sister Louise. Her interests are all sports, food and she is Chairperson of the local Rounders League. Since taking The Admiral Nelson, the pub has had a smart exterior facelift and an internal refurbishment. Trade has increased considerably in recent times, although a bit off the beaten track it is well worth a visit.

K Williams.
