Meet the Publican - The Sun Inn, Belton in Rutland

Patricia Crouch behind the bar of the Sun Inn
We travel to the County of Rutland for this issue’s “Meet The
Publican”. Patricia Crouch is Landlady at The Sun Inn, Belton In
Rutland. This gem of a pub is on Main Street and is the only pub
in the village, just a few yards off the A47 before climbing
Wardley Hill, travelling East from Leicester. It was formerly a
Phipps Pub and still retains evidence of those days. The pub is
totally unspoilt and a must to visit.
Patricia was
born in July 1961 in Leicester. She attended schools in both
Peterborough and Uppingham. On leaving school, her first job was
at Uppingham Art Gallery. She regularly patronised The Rutland
Inn on the main A47, nicknamed “The Shed”.
In 1977 she met
Bernie at The Rutland Inn and they were married in 1987. They
took on the running of The Sun Inn at Belton In Rutland in 1990.
Patricia took the pub over from her parents, Anne and Geoff
Brown who had kept it since 1969 and runs the pub by herself, as
Bernie has full time employment.
Patricia and
Bernie have 2 children, William who is 13 and Edward who is 10.
Patricia finds little time for hobbies, but says she is very
fond of golf. Her main ambition in life, like most of us, is to
live until happy retirement.
