Worcestershire Trip
A fine
Saturday morning after our trip to the Loughborough beer
festival found us joining the Leicester Branch on their outing
to visit some of Worcestershire’s finest pubs.
The
first port of call was the Brandy Cask at Pershore, where their
own brewed Whistling Joe, Brandysnapper and John Baker’s
Original were all available (and drank with vigour!)
Then on to
Hanley Castle and the Three Kings Inn, where we took over the
lounge. This gem of a place is on the National Inventory (Pubs
of historical Interest) and former National Pub Of The Year.
Malvern Hills and Hobsons were two of the local brews available
(and very reasonably priced).
Knightwick
was next and the Talbot, home of Teme Valley brewery with This,
That and T’other all on offer. A most impressive looking
restaurant attached to the lounge, also with accommodation makes
this a tempting idea for a walking weekend. (or fishing if
that’s your bag!)
Off to the
Dragon Inn at Worcester for our next stop. The landlord made us
most welcome and a subsequent visit to their website confirms
his commitment by regular updates of his beers available. Also
visited by a few of us was the Plough – an interesting place,
then back to the Dragon.
T he
last port of call was The Fruiterer’s Arms, tap of the Cannon
Royall Brewery where more beer was drunk but I cannot quite
recall what they were called! but the log burning stove was
popular. We were just there long enough for the coach to turn
around - a 36695 point turn – and then it was back to
Leicestershire and I have a suspicion that there were some of
the Leicester group taking a snooze!
Thanks to
Keith Satterly for the organisation, thanks to the Leicester
Branch for their good company, but most of all thanks to the
pubs for being some of the best in the county (there are more,
but we’ll have to go back for them).
