Pub Of The Month April 2006 - The Globe, Leicester

On Wednesday 19th April, we were out presenting our “Pub Of The Month” award again. This time to Janet and Hugh Kerr at Everards flagship pub,The Globe.

Janet and Hugh have been Licensees of The Globe on Silver Street, Leicester for nearly 7 years now. During that time, they have seen a major refurbishment in 2001 and the introduction of 4 guest beers alongside the full Everards Beer range.

The Globe was the venue of Leicester CAMRA’s first Branch Meeting in October 1974, and was also awarded Pub Of The Year in 1977. This was in the days when the award was given to a pub making a major contribution to Real Ale and CAMRA’s aims. This was achieved by being the first Everards pub to re-instate all 4 beers to handpump, having ceased brewing Real Ale in 1970.

Janet and Hugh were delighted to be recognised for their hard work and thanked Leicester CAMRA for supporting them at The Globe. All who attended had a very enjoyable evening. If you’ve never been to The Globe, it’s time you called in.

K Williams.
