Pub of the Month - The Malt Shovel, Barkby
February 2005
Dick, Alison & Andy with their award plaque.
For our
February 2005 “Pub Of The Month” our branch members voted for
The Malt Shovel in
Barkby. This Good Beer Guide listed pub is just a couple of
miles outside the City Boundary, but has all the feel of a
Country Pub.
On Tuesday 22nd February, about
15 Branch Members attended, all working their way through the 8
or so beers available on the bar that night. At about 9.30, the
Licensee, Dick Cross was presented with the “Pub Of The Month”
Award along with his team, Alison his wife and son Andy, who run
the pub together. He thanked Leicester CAMRA for the award and
for recognising the hard work he does to maintain the high
standards at his pub.
We were
treated to a superb buffet to round off the evening; little did
we know at the time that The Malt Shovel would become the
country pub runner up in our “Pub Of The Year” competition.
