Pub Of The Month May 2006 - The Shakespeare's Head, Leicester

The Pub Of The Month for May was presented on Wednesday 24th May to Ruth Rodger. Ruth is the Licensee of The Shakespeare's Head, Southgates, Leicester.

Ruth has run The Shakespeare's Head for nearly 4 years now. Over this time she has built a steady trade and prides herself on her beers and pleasing all who visit to drink there. This former Shipstones pub is now owned by Oakwell Brewery of Barnsley. The Brewery’s Area Manager, Steve Spencer was there to support Ruth on the night, along with Jonathan Stancill, their Head Brewer.

After presenting Ruth with her award, she thanked Leicester CAMRA, and Bill Woolley for nominating her. She also thanked the Management from Oakwell Brewery for giving her the opportunity to run the pub and a special thank you went to Tim Bott. Tim is her right hand man, helping with many of the tasks of day to day running, as well as being the mainstay behind the bar.

The beer prices at The Shaky’s are very competitive at £1.37 for Old Tom Mild and £1.42 for Barnsley Bitter. You can check The Shaky’s out by visiting www.shakespeareshead.co.uk, but I’m sure Ruth would love to see you if you call in.

K Williams.
